Garage door opener stuck on stop bolt.
I have a craftsman garage door opener model 139 53635srt.
Stop bolt to remove the trolley from the stop bolt follow the steps below.
Here are my steps to realign this module this applies to most craftsman garage door opener models.
Your on the right track when you loosen the chain to get it off the stop bolt you are changing the limits.
Back off the uptravel limit screw 2 turns.

Garage door opener sometime goes past up limit and become stuck on stop bolt.
First visually verify that the trolley is against the stop bolt make sure the garage doorway is clear of persons or obstructions release the door from the garage door opener by pulling the emergency release handle manually bring the door to the closed position loosen the chain or belt by adjusting the outer nut 4 to 5 turns.
I had to remove the chain and let the trolley rotate through once cycle and then put the chain back on to get the trolley in sync.

The door should stop short of fully open.

Tried to reset opening travel distance but it keeps traveling to the stop bolt and clicking.
The up down limit screws are on the opener body with arrows above to indicate increase.
Slowly increse the up travel limit 1 4 turn at a time until the door is open enough to clear you vehicle.
Ensure that chain isn t torqued against the bolt as this could be very dangerous to work on.
Also verify the antenna on the motor unit is in the proper placement.
If you re too far away this can cause a problem with opening or closing the door.
Firstly check that you re using it within the range required for your opener.
