Hi guys and welcome to my video. These applications are ideal for flat roofs or protective surfaces under roof level decks. We had a problem with our shed workshop flat felt roof leaking and needed a quick repair. Paint a thin layer of adhesive over the first felt layer.

I had to re felt my shed roof so i though i d share with you the process i went through and the materials i used. You wan walk over the roof to remove any air bubbles that may form. Sometimes called roofing felt underlayment roofing tar paper or roll roofing this is a layer of protection installed between the roof deck and the roofing shingles. Ideal for an apex flat or pent roof shed felt and roofing membrane are durable and perfect for a newly built structure or to re cover existing roofing material.

Installing the roofing felt does take care but can go very quickly. In terms of spacing leave about 6 inches between nails along both of the short sides and the side lying next to the edge of the roof. You will be placing the second layer of felt over this. These thick layers of roofing felt are installed by heating the back of the felt with a butane torch and then carefully applying it to the roof.

Generally felt underlay roof works by combining two or three layers of material together to make an impenetrable barrier that is then coated with a waterproof finishing material to further protect the felt. A third layer of felt needs to be placed. The rolls of felt are quite heavy and to avoid damage must be handled with care. Let it stand for about 30 minutes and then using galvanized nails and your hammer nail down the first layer.

Roofing felt is essential to ensure your outbuilding is ready for all weathers by providing a waterproof cover to the building s roof. There needs to be an overlap in the felt to help increase the water tight quality. Felt roofing is a very common material used on flat roofs such as garages garden sheds and on extensions. The best time to lay a felt roof using cold applied adhesive is when the weather is warm but this means that working on a flat roof can be exhausting work with the sun s heat and the heat reflected from the felt already laid.
